This policy explains what Block & Point (“we”, “the site”) collects when you visit blockandpoint.com, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read rather than to be technically survivable.
Block & Point is operated by Strandway Ventures. Contact: hello@blockandpoint.com.
The short version
We use a cookieless analytics tool that does not identify you and does not track you across sites. Everything else that could identify you — heatmap software, any future newsletter — loads only if you explicitly opt in. We do not sell data, we do not run advertising networks, and we do not build profiles of visitors.
What we collect
Analytics (always on, no cookies, no personal data)
We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-focused analytics service. Plausible:
- sets no cookies and uses no other persistent identifier
- collects no personal data and cannot identify you
- does not track you across websites or over time
- reports only aggregate figures: page views, referrer, country, device type, browser
Because it is anonymous and aggregate, this runs without a consent gate — there is nothing to consent to under the ePrivacy Directive, since no information is stored on or read from your device.
We also record aggregate counts of which outbound links are clicked, so we know which recommendations readers find useful. This is recorded as an event against the link, not against you.
Heatmaps and session analytics (opt-in only)
If you accept the Analytics category in our cookie banner, we may load Crazy Egg, which records anonymised interaction data — where visitors click and how far they scroll — to help us improve page layout. This does not load unless you opt in, and it is described in our cookie policy.
Newsletter (opt-in only, and not yet operating)
Our newsletter signup form is not currently connected to an email service. Addresses entered into it are not stored or transmitted anywhere, and the form says so when submitted.
If and when the newsletter begins operating, we will only hold the email address you give us, only use it to send the newsletter, never sell or share it, and include an unsubscribe link in every issue. This policy will be updated with the provider’s name and location before that happens.
Your consent choice
Your cookie preference is stored in a single first-party cookie (sw_consent_v1) for approximately 180 days, so we don’t ask you again on every page. It records only your choice — nothing about you.
Server logs
Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (IP address, timestamp, requested URL, user agent) for security and abuse prevention. These are retained on a short rolling window and are not used for analytics or marketing.
What we do not do
- We do not sell or rent personal data. Ever.
- We do not run advertising networks or behavioural ad targeting.
- We do not build visitor profiles.
- We do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or any cross-site tracking pixel.
- We do not require an account, so we hold no passwords.
Affiliate links and third parties
Block & Point intends to be funded by affiliate commission. When you click a “shop” link you are taken to a third-party retailer, which becomes the data controller from that point on and applies its own privacy policy. If a commission arrangement is in place, that retailer may set a cookie to attribute the visit.
We do not currently have any affiliate relationship in place — see our affiliate disclosure. Any partner that sets cookies will be listed by name in our cookie policy before it goes live.
Legal basis for processing (UK/EU visitors)
- Anonymous analytics — legitimate interest in understanding aggregate site usage, with no personal data processed.
- Heatmaps, and any future newsletter — your explicit consent, which you can withdraw at any time using the “Cookie settings” control in the footer.
- Server logs — legitimate interest in security and abuse prevention.
Your rights
If you are in the UK or EU, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing of your personal data, and to data portability and to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority (in the UK, the ICO).
In practice we hold almost nothing about you, so most of these requests will be answered by telling you that. To exercise any of them, write to hello@blockandpoint.com.
California residents have equivalent rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know and to delete. We do not sell personal information as defined by those laws.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
Material changes will be reflected here with an updated date at the top. If a change expands what we collect, we will re-request consent rather than rely on the old one.
